Skin of a sweet lemon : A Great observation

This post is on the same lines of my previous post: home made flamethrower. Read on. Every one of us know that the skin (epicarp) of a sweet lemon contains some watery substance which comes out as a spray when the skin is squeezed. And we also know that the liquid when comes in contact with our eyes creates an irritating sensation. This made me think that the liquid contained something special and why not try burning it. Same as before i took a match stick, lighted it, held it with a tongs and then squeezed the skin over the flame of the match stick. To my surprise, there was a squirt of flame as before. The flame was much smaller in size when compared to that of the deodorant can. The flame was almost blue in colour. I hope to find the reason for it and you will soon see the cause of the flame in this blog. Keep visiting...

Home made flamethrower

One day i happened to see the inflammable cautionary mark on the deodorant that i use. I wanted to test whether it is really inflammable, hence i took match stick, lighted it, held it with tongs (of course a small one) and sprayed the deodorant over the burning match stick. As you all would expect, the flame squirted out amazingly. It appeared as though i had designed a mini-flamethrower myself. I was a wonderful experience then (when i was just 14 years old). The following is an image of someone using a flamethrower and not me with my deodorant can. I will surely put the photo here if i could take picture of my experiment.
